New work from Printmaker Christopher Kirsch the Double Double Helix is comprised of a single image run through his printing press a total of 288 times in pink & blues letterpress inks. The finished work is reminiscent of the old toy Spirograph but is actually done on a letterpress and carefully arranging and moving the image block between the 288 impressions. This Helix is printed on cream colored paper size 22 1/2” X 30”
This piece is printed in the rainbow colors with a single Fleur de Lis printing block, the block is inked then printed before moving it to the new location. As the circle is completed the block is moved further towards the center and the process begins again until the Fleur de Lis is overlapping and no longer recognizable as the Fleur be Lis. The paper is run through the letterpress a total of 168 times to complete the design. Paper size is 22 1/2” square.
